A one-way street, school arrival, stadium event, freight queue, or railroad crossing can change one trip more than another. Evaluate each direction and departure window separately instead of simply reversing the stop list.

Dwell time is real operating time

Boarding 45 employees is different from picking up six. Badge checks, mobility devices, bags, weather, and passengers arriving at the last moment can extend a stop. Publish a ready-to-board time and decide how long the vehicle can wait without jeopardizing the rest of the route. A schedule with zero tolerance for ordinary traffic variation will appear efficient on a spreadsheet and fail on the road. A measured recovery allowance protects critical arrivals, but excessive padding can make the commute unattractive and expensive. Shift transportation must account for the time between the curb and productive work.
