Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo Group Trips: Parking and Timing
Most Fort Worth Stock Show group trips succeed or fail on the date you pick. A Tuesday morning with third graders, a Saturday parade crowd and a Friday night rodeo are three different trips, with different parts of the grounds, different parking peaks and different bus plans. So this guide puts the calendar first: choose your day type, then the clock. It covers the 2027 dates, four group day types, what is (and is not) published about coach parking around Will Rogers Memorial Center, an ice storm plan and two sample timelines.
A note on names: the rodeo arena beside the Will Rogers grounds was renamed Ariat Arena in late October 2026. Older maps and permission forms will say Dickies Arena. Same building, 1911 Montgomery Street.
Step One: Put the 2027 Stock Show Dates on Your Calendar
The show runs 23 days each winter. The official 2027 rodeo ticket listings show Ariat Arena performances from Friday, January 15 through Saturday, February 6, 2027, which lines up with that run. Grounds hours are listed as 8 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. daily. Barns, exhibit halls and the arena all sit on or beside the Will Rogers Memorial Center campus in the Cultural District, west of downtown.
Calendar anchors to mark now:
- Opening weekend: Best of the West Ranch Rodeo on Friday, January 15 and Saturday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m.
- All Western Parade: Saturday, January 16, 2027 at 11 a.m. in downtown Fort Worth, per the show’s own event listing.
- Monday, January 18 (Martin Luther King Jr. Day): Cowboys of Color at 2 p.m., a daytime performance on a day many schools are closed.
- Daytime rodeo performances: 2 p.m. on January 24, January 29 and January 31, plus an 11 a.m. performance on Saturday, January 30.
- Senior Fridays: the grounds admission page lists reduced senior (55+) general admission on Fridays, January 15, 22, 29 and February 5.
- Championship Finals: Saturday, February 6 at 7:30 p.m., the last night of the show.
Rodeo tickets went on sale in mid September, so popular nights may be tight. Every rodeo ticket includes same-day grounds admission. Daily general admission for everyone else is not sold online; it is bought at the gates or ticket windows, so plan how your group will pay before you walk up.
Step Two: Choose a Day Type for Fort Worth Stock Show Group Trips
Here is the summary. Each day type follows with what the group does, arrival, crowd level and the bus plan.
| Day type | Typical group | Main venue | Best arrival | Crowd outlook | Bus plan in one line |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| School field trip weekday | Elementary classes, ag science, FFA and 4-H clubs | Will Rogers grounds, barns, Children’s Barnyard | Shortly after the 8 a.m. gate opening | Lighter grounds traffic, busy with other schools midmorning | Morning drop-off, coach parks off site, early afternoon pickup before school dismissal traffic |
| Rodeo performance night | Youth groups, company outings, church groups, adult clubs | Ariat Arena | Two to three hours before the performance if touring the grounds first | Heavy near the arena in the hour before showtime | Drop near the arena, driver waits or returns, late pickup with a set meeting spot |
| Parade day | Families, scout troops, senior clubs | Downtown Fort Worth route, then the grounds | Well ahead of the 11 a.m. start | Opening Saturday, very busy downtown and on the grounds | Downtown drop away from closed streets, then a second move to the Cultural District |
| Weekend family or church group day | Church groups, family reunions, multi-generation clubs | Grounds plus a 2 p.m. or 11 a.m. matinee | At opening, before lots fill | Highest of the week on the grounds | Early drop, matinee seating, depart before evening arrivals stack up |
Day Type A: The School Field Trip Weekday
What the group does. A field trip here is an agriculture day: livestock barns, judging when it is underway, and the hands-on areas the show lists, including the FFA Children’s Barnyard (FFA members explain mother animals and their young), the Milking Parlor, a petting zoo and pony rides, and Texas Farm Bureau’s Doorways to Agriculture exhibit. Texas Farm Bureau reported more than 5,000 students toured that exhibit during the 2026 run, so expect other schools.
The show’s public pages do not describe a school tour booking program, reserved school days or a 2027 teacher guide. Contact the Stock Show office before you pick a date and ask about registration, any school admission rate and which barns have shows that day. Ag teachers and extension agents know the judging calendar well. Our 4-H transportation guide for fairs and ag events covers bus days built around show times.
When to arrive. Aim for 8:30 to 9:15 a.m., right after the 8 a.m. opening and before the midmorning wave of schools. Three to four hours on site fits lunch and an on-time return.
Crowd level. Lighter for the public, but school groups cluster from about 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Do the barns first and the kids’ areas after lunch, when some schools are leaving.
Bus plan. A full-size coach with under-floor storage holds lunches and coats. Give each chaperone a fixed group and set a meeting point at a named building, since the coach will not sit beside the barns. Our school field trip charter service builds the day around your bell schedule, and our parent pickup plan for late bus returns is worth sending home, because winter roads can turn a 2:30 return into 3:45.
Day Type B: The Rodeo Performance Night
What the group does. Most groups pair grounds time with a performance at Ariat Arena, usually at 7:30 p.m. Opening weekend is the Best of the West Ranch Rodeo, January 17 is the Best of Mexico Celebración, Bulls Night Out runs January 19 and 20, and the FWSSR PRORODEO Tournament fills most other nights. Themed nights (TCU Day, Military Day, Texas Tech Day and others) can draw extra crowds.
Matinee or evening? Daytime shows (2 p.m. on January 18, 24, 29 and 31; 11 a.m. on January 30) suit young kids, seniors and long drives. Evening shows mean a late return, so check driver hours. Under the FMCSA hours-of-service rules for passenger carriers, a driver may drive up to 10 hours within a 15-hour on-duty window. A Waco group leaving at 2 p.m. and heading home after 10 p.m. is long but workable; the same coach after a morning school run is not.
Group tickets. When we checked, the arena’s group page offered group sales for parties of 25 or more through GroupSales@DickiesArena.com. Confirm that address after the rename and ask about 2027 group pricing. The same team handles Stock Show Experiences, which have included dinner in a private space and priority seating.
When to arrive. Arena lots open 3.5 hours before showtime. For a 7:30 show, arrive 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. to see the grounds first, or by 6:30 p.m. if going straight to seats. Re-entry is not permitted at the arena, so feed everyone first.
Crowd level. Traffic peaks in the 90 minutes before showtime on Harley Avenue, Montgomery Street and Trail Drive, and again when thousands leave at once. Plan the pickup more carefully than the drop.
Bus plan. Drop the group, let the driver stage off site, and set a return time. Ask the arena’s group sales team to confirm the current motorcoach drop location before you print anything.
Day Type C: Parade Day
What the group does. The All Western Parade brings riders, horses and western groups through downtown. The show lists the 2027 parade for Saturday, January 16 at 11 a.m. The City of Fort Worth’s page for an earlier year noted free sidewalk viewing and warned weather can cancel it. The 2027 route and closures were not posted when we checked.
When to arrive. Be in place at least an hour early for a curb view, which means a downtown drop around 9:30 a.m. Closures start before the parade, and a coach cannot circle while it waits.
Crowd level. Opening Saturday stacks the parade crowd, the first big grounds weekend and an evening ranch rodeo on one day.
Bus plan. For Fort Worth Stock Show group trips built around the parade, run two moves: drop downtown outside the closure zone, then after streets reopen, pick up at the same spot and drive west to the grounds. Allow an hour or more of buffer. Groups skipping the grounds can pair the parade with the historic district in our Fort Worth Stockyards group transportation guide.
Day Type D: The Weekend Family or Church Group Day
What the group does. Barns, kids’ areas, exhibit hall shopping, food and, if possible, a matinee: Sunday, January 24 at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 30 at 11 a.m. or Sunday, January 31 at 2 p.m. Our church group charter bus service fits a Sunday matinee or a Saturday that ends before evening services.
When to arrive. At or shortly after 8 a.m. The show notes the Yellow Lot fills early on weekends, a good signal for the whole campus.
Crowd level. The busiest days on the grounds. Adult-only groups may prefer a weekday plus an evening rodeo.
Bus plan. Drop early, park off site, and pick up 45 to 60 minutes after a matinee ends. Every Stock Show guest lot has ADA parking, and the arena offers free wheelchair escorts arranged in advance.
Step Three: Set the Clock (Timing Table)
These are the times to build around. Drive times are rough light-traffic estimates, not promises. Our Fort Worth charter bus rental team can quote exact pickup times for your address.
| Day type | Fixed time to plan around | Target drop-off | Target pickup | Approximate drive to the Cultural District |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| School weekday | Grounds open 8 a.m. | 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. | 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. | Arlington: about 30 minutes. Dallas: about 45 to 60 minutes. |
| Evening rodeo | Most shows start 7:30 p.m.; arena lots open 3.5 hours before | 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. (grounds plus show) or by 6:30 p.m. (show only) | About 30 to 45 minutes after the show ends | Denton: about 50 to 60 minutes. Waco: about 90 minutes or more. |
| Parade day | Parade at 11 a.m. downtown | 9:30 a.m. or earlier, outside closures | After streets reopen, then a short hop west | Downtown to the Will Rogers grounds is a short drive once streets reopen |
| Weekend matinee | 2 p.m. (Jan 24, Jan 31) or 11 a.m. (Jan 30) | 8:00 to 9:30 a.m. | 45 to 60 minutes after the matinee | Same as above, with heavier local traffic |
From the east, our Dallas charter bus rentals and Arlington charter bus service plan the I-30 approach. A Denton charter bus keeps a campus group together on I-35W, and Central Texas groups often book a Waco charter bus rental for a matinee day.
Fort Worth Stock Show Parking and Bus Drop-Off
Know this up front: neither the Stock Show nor the arena publishes a dedicated motorcoach or charter bus parking area. We checked the show’s parking, weekend traffic and grounds map pages and the arena’s parking page and guest guide. None names a bus lot, bus lane or bus fee. What follows is the published car and ride share layout. Get your coach plan confirmed in writing by the Stock Show office or arena group sales.
Will Rogers Memorial Center Lots and Garages
The show’s driving directions and parking page lists guest parking at a flat $20, with major credit cards accepted and ADA spaces at every lot. The guest lots it names are:
- Orange Lot, next to the Amon G. Carter Jr. Exhibits Hall.
- Blue Lot, next to the National Cowgirl Museum.
- Farrington Field lot, to the east toward University Drive and Lancaster Avenue.
- UNT Health Science Center lot, open on Saturdays and Sundays only.
- Casa Mañana lot.
- Yellow Lot, east of the arena near Gate 44. It fills early on weekends, and a trolley runs from it periodically during the show.
- Arena West Lot, limited and for rodeo guests only.
- Western Heritage Garage, west of the Amon Carter exhibit hall on Gendy Street.
Full-size coaches do not fit typical garage clearances, so leave the Western Heritage Garage and the arena’s Chevrolet Garage out of your bus plan. The $20 fee is posted for guest vehicles, and the show does not say whether buses are admitted to surface lots or what they would pay. Ask, and have the answer written into your charter quote.
Ariat Arena Parking and Drop-Off
The arena’s directions and parking page lists the Yellow Lots across Trail Drive, the 2,200-space Chevrolet Garage at 3464 Trail Drive, a prepaid Montgomery Lot off Harley Street and ADA overflow at Gate 49. Lots open 3.5 hours before showtime, fees vary by event, and the page routes drivers from I-30 via University Drive to Trail Drive. The guest guide mentions RV and trailer parking in Yellow Lot D, the only large-vehicle parking it names, though not described as bus parking.
During the Stock Show, arena ride share drop-off moves to Harley Avenue at Secretariat Drive, with pickup at 3526 Harley Avenue, and ride shares cannot enter the grounds. A coach is not a ride share, so do not assume that lane takes a 56-passenger bus. It does show where the venue wants drop traffic, which makes a good first question for group sales: can our coach use the Harley Avenue drop, or is there a separate bus lane this year?
Will Rogers Grounds Drop-Off
The show’s ride share point for the Will Rogers grounds is 3400 Will Rogers Road South. For a barn-focused school visit, that side of campus is the logical place to ask about a coach drop. Police and lot attendants direct traffic during the show, and a driver holding confirmed written instructions has an easier morning than one negotiating at the gate.
Shuttles and Trinity Metro
The show’s pages do not describe a group park-and-ride beyond the periodic Yellow Lot trolley. They do promote Trinity Metro: the Stock Show Trinity Metro page describes The Dash, an electric bus stopping at the arena and Will Rogers Memorial Center from Fort Worth Central Station, where TEXRail, the Trinity Railway Express and Molly the Trolley connect. That works for small adult groups. For a class of 50, every transfer risks the head count. For most Fort Worth Stock Show group trips, a chartered coach keeps everyone together door to door.
Running more than one bus? Give each a number, a captain and a pickup order. Our full-size charter bus page lists seating and storage.
Winter Weather Contingency for Stock Show Bus Trips
Ice is the real winter risk here. In January 2026, Winter Storm Fern iced the region mid-show. The show stayed open, but KERA reported icy highways, official calls for essential travel only and a one-day Trinity Metro bus shutdown. Texas Farm Bureau said some school tours were canceled, and many rescheduled. The show staying open does not mean your trip should go.
Build these into your plan:
- Agree on a decision time. Settle with your charter provider on a go or no-go call, such as 5 a.m. on the trip day for a school trip or noon for an evening rodeo. Put it in writing, with the name of the person who makes the call.
- Read the cancellation terms before you sign. Ask how weather cancellations are handled and whether the fee changes if the operator, rather than your group, decides the roads are unsafe.
- Pick a backup date. The show runs for 23 days. Ask the school or church office to hold a second date in the same window.
- Know the ticket policy. Ask the arena’s group sales team what happens to rodeo tickets if your group cannot travel and the performance goes on. Do not assume a refund.
- Dress for barns, not buses. Livestock barns and outdoor walkways are cold. Tell families to send layers, closed-toe shoes that can get dirty, gloves and a hat. Our guide to charter bus heating and climate control explains what to expect on board, which helps when the coach is your warming station between buildings.
- Plan for a slow ride home. If ice develops during the day, the return will be slower. Have a parent message ready and a plan for students whose rides cannot reach the school.
Sample Timeline: School Field Trip Weekday
Example: 50 elementary students from Arlington on a mid-show weekday.
- 7:30 a.m. Coach arrives at school. Driver checks in with the lead teacher, and lunches go under the bus.
- 7:50 a.m. Students board by chaperone group. Lead teacher confirms the roster count with the driver.
- 8:00 a.m. Depart.
- 8:40 a.m. Arrive at the confirmed drop point near the Will Rogers grounds. Groups line up at the gate with payment or tickets ready.
- 9:00 a.m. Livestock barns first, while the aisles are quiet.
- 10:15 a.m. FFA Children’s Barnyard and Doorways to Agriculture.
- 11:15 a.m. Lunch. Bring sack lunches to a spot you have asked the show about, or retrieve them from the coach if it is parked nearby.
- 12:00 p.m. Milking Parlor or a judging session, depending on the day’s schedule.
- 12:45 p.m. Restroom stop, then everyone walks to the named meeting point.
- 1:00 p.m. Head count and board.
- 1:45 p.m. Back at school, ahead of dismissal traffic.
Adding a museum? Our Fort Worth museum district by bus guide covers nearby drop points, though two venues in one winter school day leave little slack.
Sample Timeline: Evening Rodeo Group Trip
Example: 45 riders from Dallas for a 7:30 p.m. PRORODEO Tournament performance, with grounds time first.
- 3:15 p.m. Coach arrives at the pickup site. Trip leader hands the driver the confirmed drop and pickup instructions from the venue.
- 3:30 p.m. Depart. Allow extra time for weekday rush hour on I-30.
- 4:45 p.m. Arrive at the confirmed drop point. Arena lots have been open since 4 p.m. for a 7:30 show.
- 5:00 p.m. Group walks the barns and exhibit halls. The rodeo ticket covers grounds admission for the day.
- 6:00 p.m. Dinner on the grounds. Remind everyone that there is no re-entry at the arena and that bags must meet the 12 by 6 by 12 inch limit.
- 6:50 p.m. Group enters the arena together.
- 7:30 p.m. Performance.
- End of performance. Group meets at one named spot inside the arena before walking out. Do not let people drift to the coach on their own.
- About 30 to 45 minutes after the end. Coach pickup at the confirmed location. Head count before the doors close.
- Roughly 60 to 75 minutes later. Arrive back in Dallas, depending on traffic.
The show does not publish end times, so have the driver stay in touch with the trip leader by text. Comparing with Houston, a few weeks later? See our Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo transportation guide.
Stock Show Bus Day Answers for Group Leaders
What are the 2027 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo dates?
The official ticket listings show rodeo performances at Ariat Arena from January 15 through February 6, 2027, which matches the show’s 23-day run. The All Western Parade is listed for Saturday, January 16, 2027 at 11 a.m. downtown. Recheck the schedule in early January in case anything changes.
Where do charter buses park at the Fort Worth Stock Show?
Neither the show nor the arena publishes a dedicated motorcoach lot or bus drop lane. Guest lots are posted at $20 for cars, garages will not fit a full-size coach, and the arena’s only large-vehicle mention is RV and trailer parking in Yellow Lot D. Contact the Stock Show office or the arena’s group sales team for current bus instructions, and give them to your driver in writing.
How do Fort Worth Stock Show group tickets work?
For the rodeo, the arena’s group page has listed group sales for parties of 25 or more through its group sales email. Ask about 2027 pricing and whether a group rate applies to your performance. Rodeo tickets include same-day grounds admission. Daily grounds tickets for people without a rodeo ticket are sold only at the gates, not online.
Is there a special school day or education program?
The show’s public pages list education attractions, including the FFA Children’s Barnyard, the Milking Parlor and Doorways to Agriculture, but they do not describe reserved school days or a booking process for 2027. Call or email the Stock Show office before choosing a date, and ask about any registration and school admission rates.
Should we pick a matinee or an evening rodeo?
Pick a matinee for young children, senior groups or anyone driving more than an hour each way. In 2027 the daytime shows are January 18, 24, 29 and 31 at 2 p.m. and January 30 at 11 a.m. Evening shows at 7:30 p.m. suit adult and youth groups that can handle a late return. Check driver hours if the coach has another job that day.
What happens if an ice storm hits on our trip day?
The show has stayed open through past storms, but roads and transit may not be safe. Agree on a decision time and a backup date with your charter provider ahead of time. Check the rodeo ticket policy with the arena before you buy, so you know what happens if you cannot travel.
Can we use Trinity Metro instead of a charter?
Small adult groups can ride The Dash from Fort Worth Central Station, which stops at the arena and the Will Rogers grounds. For school groups or anyone with many young riders, transfers make head counts hard. A charter bus keeps everyone together from your front door to the gate.
