LEGOLAND New York Group Trips: Bus Parking and Ticket Planning

Most LEGOLAND New York group trips get planned backwards. Someone picks a date, someone else books a bus, and only later does the organizer learn the ticket program needed three weeks of notice or that the park was closed that weekday. This article is set up as a worksheet to stop that. Each numbered line below asks one question, explains where the answer comes from, and ends with a bold “Write down” prompt. Fill in all eight lines and you will have the ticket count, the date, the arrival time, the parking plan and the return time a charter company needs to quote your trip accurately. The resort sits at 1 LEGOLAND Way in Goshen, in Orange County, roughly 60 miles northwest of Midtown Manhattan, which makes it a day trip by motorcoach for much of the Northeast.

Every venue fact below was checked against the resort’s website and help center on October 28, 2026. Programs, prices and calendars change by season, so confirm each number on the official group pages before you pay a deposit or sign a bus contract.

Line 1: Group Type and Headcount for LEGOLAND New York Group Trips

The resort sorts groups into separate programs, each with its own minimum, price and booking path, so first settle which kind of group you are. Circle one.

  • School group. Classes, grade levels or whole schools visiting on a school day. These use the Self-Guided Field Trip program, which requires verified school status. Homeschool groups qualify too.
  • Summer camp. Day camps and camp programs visiting during the summer weekday window. These have a dedicated Summer Camp Group program.
  • Scouts and youth organizations. Troops, packs, clubs and similar youth groups. These book through the Youth, Camp, Scout and Large Groups offer.
  • Church and faith groups. Youth ministries and Sunday school outings normally fall under the large group offer unless the church runs a recognized school.
  • Family reunion. Multiple households traveling together. Large group offer, as long as you meet the minimum.
  • Company family day. The resort lists a separate corporate events page; ask about it if you want catering or a private space.

Then count heads in two columns: children and adults. LEGOLAND requires a valid ticket for every guest age 2 and up, including adults, so your ticket count and your bus seat count will usually match. The one exception is the driver, covered in Line 4.

The headcount also decides your vehicle. A single class with chaperones often fits on a minibus. A full grade of 80 or more needs two full size coaches, and at that point it helps to read our guide on assigning students and chaperones across multiple charter buses before you build your roster. For school districts that prefer a familiar yellow vehicle for short runs, a school bus rental with a professional driver is another option, though most groups coming more than an hour pick a coach with a restroom.

Write down: your group type, total kids, total adults, and total bus seats needed.

Line 2: Your Ticket Type and the Rules That Come With It

The three group programs look similar but behave differently. Here is what the official pages showed when this was written.

Self-Guided Field Trips (schools)

The LEGOLAND New York self-guided field trip page lists one-day admission at $25 per student and $25 per chaperone, with a minimum of 15 guests. Visits run on weekdays only. You submit a booking request rather than buying instantly, and the resort asks for at least 21 days of notice; it recommends a month. School verification can take up to seven days of that window, so a request sent exactly three weeks out leaves very little slack. Confirmed dates cannot be moved. If you need a different day, you cancel and rebook.

Eligibility is one place the sources disagree: the field trip page says Pre-K through 12th grade, while a help center article says Pre-K through 8th. High school groups should get eligibility confirmed in writing first.

Payment is by card or mobile pay online; checks only if paid 21 days ahead. Tickets are nonrefundable and cannot be rescheduled for rain.

Summer Camp Groups

The summer camp program listed $30 per camper and $30 per chaperone, with a 15 guest minimum and select weekdays from June 29 through August 31, 2026. It also requires at least three weeks of notice. Bus parking is included in the camp package. Note that the camp landing page and its own meta summary give two different minimums (15 and 20), so ask which one applies when you request your date. Our guide to charter bus rental for summer camps covers the transportation side.

Youth, Camp, Scout and Large Groups

The youth, scout and large groups page offers 20% off One-Day Theme Park tickets for groups of 20 or more, sold online only. Tickets are dated for a single day and valid only on that date. Parking is not included. One older help center article mentions 15 or more, so again, confirm the threshold that applies on your booking date.

Most scout troops, churches, reunions and community groups will use this path. Scout leaders may also find our piece on scout group bus transportation for camp arrivals and departures useful.

Chaperones and free tickets

None of the official group pages publish a required chaperone ratio, and none offer free chaperone tickets. Teachers and chaperones pay the same rate as students. Two rules do shape how many adults you need:

  • The resort’s security policy says children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.
  • On height-restricted rides, one adult cannot accompany more than one child at a time.

That second rule is easy to miss. With kindergarten and first grade students, a 1 to 10 ratio that works at a museum leaves kids waiting beside rides that require a companion. Many organizers of young groups plan closer to 1 to 4 or 1 to 5 (a planning suggestion, not a park rule).

Write down: which program you will book, the price per person, the booking deadline (your date minus 21 days at minimum), and how many chaperones you need.

Line 3: Your Date and the Season Calendar

LEGOLAND New York is a seasonal park, so your date choice starts with whether the park is open at all. According to the resort’s help center article on theme park operating hours, the park generally opens at 10 a.m., with hours varying by date and event. The table below collects only what the official pages state. The resort does not publish crowd levels, so this table tells you about operating patterns and program windows, not attendance.

As of October 28, 2026, the resort had not posted a 2027 opening date on the pages reviewed for this article. If you are planning a spring 2027 field trip, watch the operating calendar and the schools calendar PDF, and request your date as soon as it appears. The Holiday Bricktacular page also showed two slightly different date ranges (November 27 through January 2 in the body, November 28 through January 3 in its summary), another reason to check the live calendar for your exact day.

School and camp programs are weekday products. For churches, scouts and reunions, a summer weekday is usually easier on a bus schedule than a weekend, when Thruway and Route 17 traffic tends to be heavier on the way home. For more on how LEGOLAND compares with other parks as a group destination, see our roundup of the best theme parks for group charter bus trips.

If your trip is a June reward day, our guide to end-of-year school celebration transportation covers the scheduling crunch when every school wants the same two weeks.

Write down: your first-choice date, a backup date, and confirmation that both are open days on the official calendar.

Line 4: Bus Parking, Drop-Off and the Driver

This is where planning LEGOLAND New York group trips by coach differs most from a family visit. The official pages give useful detail, but some of it overlaps or conflicts.

Getting there

The resort’s directions and parking page routes traffic from Manhattan up I-87 (the New York State Thruway) to Exit 16 at Harriman, then west on Route 17 to Exit 125 (Harriman Drive and South Street). Traffic from Connecticut comes across I-84 to Route 17 and the same Exit 125. From the exit, vehicles continue to Harriman Drive and turn onto LEGOLAND Way, then follow signs to parking. Route 17 in this area is also signed as the future I-86 corridor, so your driver may see both designations. Put Exit 125 in your trip notes for the driver.

Where buses go

The official sources describe bus handling in three slightly different ways:

  1. The directions and parking page assigns Lot C to buses and large RVs, notes that Lot B is used by the scheduled Coach USA service for drop-off and pickup, and says final placement of buses is up to the parking team on the day.
  2. The large group page says staff direct buses to a bus parking area and guests walk a short distance to the entry plaza.
  3. The field trip planning guide says buses are directed to the Main Entry for curbside drop-off and that vehicle traffic is closed inside the attraction during operating hours.

In practice, plan for staff direction on arrival: the driver follows the parking team’s signals, and passengers should expect to unload either at a curbside zone or in the bus lot. The resort is built on a hillside, and the planning guide notes there is no guest transport between the top and bottom of the park, so expect walking on slopes from the moment you step off the coach. If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair or walker, tell the resort and the bus company ahead of time; the planning guide states more than 95% of the resort is wheelchair accessible.

What bus parking costs

The answer depends on your program:

  • School field trips: the self-guided field trip page says school buses park free.
  • Summer camp groups: bus parking is included in the camp package.
  • Large groups (scouts, churches, reunions, companies): parking is not included. The help center article on parking costs lists standard car parking at $38 plus tax and preferred parking from $55 plus tax, and says oversized vehicles, including buses, must pay for parking at the resort on exit. It does not publish the bus rate.

Since the motorcoach rate is not posted, call the resort and ask, then decide who pays. Our explainer on who pays for parking fees on a charter lays out the usual arrangements.

The driver’s day

The help center and field trip page both say school group bus drivers get free park admission. Whether that extends to large group charters is not stated, so ask when you book. Either way, the coach normally stays parked on site during a same-day theme park charter, and the driver gets a rest break.

Write down: which lot or drop zone you expect, the bus parking fee (or “free” or “included”), who pays it, and whether your driver gets park admission.

Line 5: Arrival Time Versus Gate Opening

With a typical 10 a.m. opening, the goal is to have the bus at the resort between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m. That gives you time for the steps that eat minutes with a big group:

  • Unloading a full coach and lining up by chaperone group: about 10 to 15 minutes for 50 people.
  • Security screening: the resort checks all bags and may use metal detectors or handheld wands, and recommends arriving early for it.
  • Turnstiles: school arrival instructions say group tickets are scanned at the turnstiles and the whole school group must enter at the same time, so nobody goes in until everyone is through security.

Then work backward. As an illustrative sample, a group about 90 minutes away would load at 7:15 a.m., depart at 7:45 a.m., arrive around 9:35 a.m., and line up for security by 9:50 a.m. Add 15 to 20 minutes on any weekday that crosses New York City rush hour. Have tickets and any parking pass ready on paper or a phone; the resort emails school group tickets and parking passes before the visit.

Write down: target arrival time at the resort, departure time from home, and passenger loading time.

Line 6: Inside the Park

What happens inside drives your return time and passenger instructions, so settle these items before departure day.

Meeting point and lost child plan

The field trip planning guide says lost children are taken to Guest Services, located just inside the entry gates. Make that your official fallback meeting point and tell every child. School arrival instructions also ask that every student carry the name and phone number of a teacher or chaperone. A pocket card or wristband with the lead chaperone’s cell number works. The park is cashless (cards and mobile pay only), so tell parents ahead of time that cash spending money will not work inside.

Heights and age

Rides are geared to ages 2 to 12. The resort’s rides and height requirements article lists minimums that range from 34 inches (Fire Academy) up to 42 inches for The Dragon, Rogue Riders and Jay’s Gravity Force Trainer, with several rides requiring a companion until a child reaches 52 inches or age 8. Pair your youngest riders with chaperones willing to ride. The water playground lets guests over 40 inches use all slides, while kids 36 to 40 inches are limited to the two lower slides.

For the ride there, see our guide to the best charter bus for kids.

Food and lunches

The food rules are strict:

  • General security rules prohibit outside food and coolers, with exceptions for water, small snacks and medically necessary items. Sealed or reusable water bottles are allowed.
  • School groups are allowed to bring their own lunches, but the resort has no storage for outside food, so lunches stay with the students all day.
  • For catered meals, the field trip page directs groups to a catering contact with the park’s food service operator. Ask about group meal options and pricing directly; the official pages do not publish a set meal deal.

Some groups leave lunches on the coach and walk back to the bus lot to eat. The official pages do not describe readmission for this, so ask the resort first. For the onboard side, our guide on charter bus rental for theme parks covers food, coolers and cleanup on the coach.

Lockers, bags and extras

  • Lockers rent in the Bricktopia area for about $9 to $12 per day depending on size, with keyless access.
  • Prohibited items include wheeled bags, rolling backpacks, folding chairs, balloons and oversized strollers. Leave those on the bus.
  • If your group is staying overnight at the on-site LEGOLAND Hotel, the bus will need an overnight parking arrangement; the directions page says overnight parking is available in hotel lots but not in Lots B or C. Confirm placement for a coach directly with the resort.

Some adult groups pair LEGOLAND with outlet shopping elsewhere in Orange County, but for youth groups a single destination usually makes a calmer day.

Write down: meeting point, chaperone check-in times, lunch plan (bring, buy or cater), and any accessibility needs.

Line 7: Departure Time and the Drive Home

Pick a firm bus departure time and give every chaperone a meeting time 30 minutes earlier. The help center describes general hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., though closing times vary by date and event. With a 5 p.m. close, a 3:30 p.m. meet and 4:00 p.m. pullout lets you leave ahead of the closing rush out of the lots. For school trips, the return time also has to match the end of your school day and parent pickup.

The drive home depends on where you started. The figures below are approximate motorcoach times under normal conditions; your charter company will refine them with current traffic.

  • Midtown Manhattan and the rest of New York City: about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes, longer at weekday rush hour. Groups starting in the five boroughs can find local details on our New York City charter bus rental page.
  • North Jersey (Bergen and Passaic counties): about 50 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes.
  • Hudson Valley (Newburgh, Poughkeepsie, Kingston): about 30 minutes to 1 hour 15 minutes. See our Hudson Valley charter bus rental page for regional pickups.
  • Philadelphia: about 2 hours 30 minutes to 3 hours.
  • Albany and the Capital Region: about 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours 15 minutes.
  • Orange County locals: 15 minutes or less. Our Goshen, NY charter bus rental page covers nearby service.

Longer runs matter for driver hours. A Philadelphia trip that also stays for an evening holiday event can push past what one driver may legally cover, so share your full schedule when requesting a quote.

Before pullout, do a seat-by-seat headcount against the morning roster. With multiple buses, each bus captain texts the lead organizer when their count is complete.

Write down: chaperone meet time, bus departure time from the resort, estimated arrival home, and the parent pickup time.

Line 8: The Total for Your Bus Quote

A charter quote for LEGOLAND New York group trips is built from the same few numbers every time: passengers, pickup time, wait on site, return time and route. Lines 1 through 7 already gave you each one. Include these in the request:

  1. Passenger count from Line 1, rounded up for late additions.
  2. Group type, since school, church and camp trips sometimes have different paperwork or insurance requirements. Our school field trip charter bus service page outlines what schools usually need, and our church group charter bus service page does the same for congregations.
  3. Trip date and backup date from Line 3.
  4. Pickup address and loading time from Line 5.
  5. Destination: LEGOLAND New York Resort, 1 LEGOLAND Way, Goshen, NY, via Route 17 Exit 125.
  6. Bus parking details from Line 4: lot, fee, and who pays.
  7. Return time and drop-off address from Line 7.
  8. Special needs: wheelchair lift, restroom on board, storage for lunches, a second vehicle for overflow.

Reunions often add a second pickup or hotel stop; our guide to charter bus rental for family reunions explains how those days are timed.

LEGOLAND New York Group Questions

What is the minimum group size for LEGOLAND New York group trips?

It depends on the program. The self-guided field trip and summer camp programs list a 15 guest minimum. The youth, scout and large group discount page lists 20 or more. One help center article mentions 15 for large groups, so confirm the current threshold when you book.

Do chaperones get in free at LEGOLAND New York?

Not according to the published group pages. Field trip chaperones pay the same $25 as students, and camp chaperones pay the same $30 as campers. Large group tickets require a ticket for every guest age 2 and up, adults included.

Where does a charter bus park at LEGOLAND New York?

The resort’s directions page assigns buses and large RVs to Lot C, with final placement at the parking team’s discretion. Other official pages mention curbside drop-off at the main entry and a bus parking area a short walk from the entry plaza. Tell your driver to follow staff direction on arrival.

How much is bus parking?

School buses on self-guided field trips park free, and bus parking is included in summer camp packages. For other groups, the resort says oversized vehicles, including buses, pay at the resort on exit but does not publish the rate. Call ahead and ask, then agree with your charter company on who pays.

Can our group bring lunches on a LEGOLAND New York group trip?

School groups can bring their own lunches, but there is no storage for outside food, so students carry them all day. General rules ban coolers and outside food except water, small snacks and medically necessary items. Ask the resort about group catering or meal options if carrying lunches is impractical.

How far in advance should we book?

The field trip and camp programs require at least three weeks of notice, and the resort recommends a month for field trips because weekday dates fill fast. Book the bus at the same time you request tickets so both reservations line up.

Is LEGOLAND New York open year-round?

No. The park is seasonal. The 2026 season closes January 3, 2027, and the park is closed through the winter months. Summer is the only stretch when it is open every day; spring and fall have weekends plus select weekdays. The 2027 opening date had not been posted when this was written.
